The internet is very useful, and is the main reason computers are so powerful.
What is the internet: The internet is global network that allows transfers of data and information across the world between devices. For example, as you are viewing this website right now, the information I have made has been transferred to the computer you are using so that you can view the content here.
The internet is global meaning you do not need to be close to each other for the internet to work. You could be countries apart, and the internet would still work for both computers.
How to use the internet: One of the main ways that the internet is used is through google or safari and google will already have been downloaded on your computer. automatically.
This is all the icons for search engines with the middle one being google. To open this, try and find google on your desktop or if you cannot find it, there will be search bar on the bottom of your desktop and if you type google in, you will be able to find it.
What to do on google: On google, you can reach any information you want.
Your screen should look similar to this once you have opened up google. However from here, you now have access to the entire search engine.
How to search:
How to search properly: Before you begin searching, first make sure to read and understand this section as this will be proper. Firstly, to begin searching, click the middle of the screen and start typing a question or anything that you want to search. Then from here you will find information in forms of websites
For example, On google, if searched “what are dinosaurs” this page will come up.
Now from here, you will shown information on the right hand side but also websites. Then you can click on the websites same way you clicked onto this website and start reading. You could also use the bar at the top under the search to find images, videos and more related to what you have typed.
Using google you can also get access to other applications. These include gmail which we will explain in the next section as well as Youtube, google drive and so much more.
However before you begin it is important to understand internet safety. Since this is an online platform you must be careful with how you search. Some websites may be fakes that are trying to get information off you and will ask for money. Unless you are certain that this website is not a scam, only then do you ever send money using the internet.
Furthermore, always make sure you know what you are agreeing to. When you go on certain websites, a page may appear asking you to accept “cookies.” This is a set of rules that you are agreeing to and therefore do not just click agree without understanding what it is you are agreeing to. If you follow these steps, you are guaranteeing that you keep safe while using the internet.

Using your E-mail is a very important skill to learn. A lot of communication can be done using E-mail and this will be the last chapter for the introduction to computers.
Uses of E-mail: There are two main uses for E-mail. The first of course is sending emails across which are professional messages done to maintain professionalism while communicating between two parties. However E-mails can also be useful for using in logging into other applications that you will see require an email.
What to start of with : Now the application we are going to be using is gmail as this is the easiest email platform to begin with. To start off with begin by typing gmail into your search engine on google. If you are unsure on how to do this refer back to the previous section. Now from here we are going to sing up by creating an account,
Creating an account: Now to use gmail we need to set up an email. To do this follow the instructions provided on the website along with the information I provide. The first step is going to be writing an email. This can be through your name and this must be one word for example name@gmail.com. If that email is already taken, try and put number after your name in order to find a unique email.
After that we need to create a password. This is very important and one of the most important thing is to not share your password with anyone unless you have a specific reason to and you know the person very well. Type in a password that you already have or a new password that you will remember.
After that, continue to follow the steps provided and you will have set up your gmail account.
How to write emails: Once you are on, now you can use your email and begin sending emails. Let’s start by understand how and where you can send emails.
Once you are on the home page, click on the compose button and a screen similar to the one above should appear. From here, type the email of the person you will send the email to(you can send the email to multiple people). Then the subject should be what the email is about and finally the content. Emails should be professional and so begin by typing Dear madam/ sir/ their name etc. followed by a comma.
Then click the return/enter button on your keyboard twice. From here you can write the actual content of your email making sure it is in a formal manner. Finally, after you finish, click the return/enter twice again and finish off the email with either sincerely or kind regards with another comma after then press return again and write your own name.
This is an example of the formatting of your email. From here making sure to double check over your email making sure you avoid any spelling errors.
You will also be able to see emails people have sent to you by going to your home page and all emails that have been sent to you will appear there.
What else can you do: Finally, if you wanted to log onto accounts elsewhere, you can use your gmail account as a way of signing in such as for youtube where you can use this gmail you have set up to have an account on youtube.
